That's right! Love and sexual relationships with robots is possible, and the technology might be perfected within the next 50 years. These claims were made by scientists and researchers, you can read the related articles here and here.Robots will never be the same as humans, whether we look at it from the logical or illogical point of view. Although there are many things they can do, but there are certain things that differentiate them from humans. When we talk about love, we often think of chemistry, dates and marriages. The whole process of two individuals coming together to BE HAPPY and share problems is therefore, mutual. When we programmed a robot to love us, it shall be so. There are no hassles, we do not have to worry about the partner's feelings, neither do we have to worry about conflicts.
Even though there is no commitment for this type of relationship, the satisfaction that an individual will gain is much lesser as compared to a relationship which takes time and effort. That is why we always hear people say "We have gone through so much hardship to be together", the journey that couples go through will make them treasure the bond and relationship.
There are plenty of pros and cons but I would support the idea, for the sake of those who are in dire need of love and yet unable to get any. For instance, a handicap who had been abandoned by his family and love ones, and he/she lived alone. Staying alive could be difficult enough for that individual. If we put ourselves in their shoes, it is pretty sad, but what if all that misery can cease to exist, with technology!
What do you think?
Would you oppose to this inevitable future?

well you cant deny that sex toys might be a slight threat to men because they can almost be substitutes for sex. Thats already one step closer to sex between robots.
But robots cant feel and respond 100% like human so I think our personal needs will still have to be met by living things. Example, the movie I.A.
Interesting article!
This is definitely an interesting concept... However the idea is not new though. Since global industrialisation during the 1930s, mankind had always been fascinated with machines. The age of robots and computers during the 80's is a natural evolution of mankind's obsession to harness new technology. This is just one of the ways to use it...
Humans are strange creatures. There is a possibility of us becoming mechaphiliac. Its a medical condition of someone being sexually attracted to machines. Take the example of this man who had sex with 1000 cars, though im not too sure how to!http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2000899/Man-admits-'having-sex'-with-1,000-cars.html
But i guess the idea of using robotics to fulfil our primal desire must have originated from the land of the rising sun. Strangely, in this conformist and highly traditional society, such ideas are easy to catch on and be accepted. As pornography is made legalised, the market and demand is already there. It will be fascinating to see how such products will develop...
With real call girls being expensive and relative inaccessible to the average japanese salaryman, perhaps a life like battery operated doll might just be the best thing to release the stress.
Still, one mustn't be too obsessed and be detached from reality.
That is very true, because when we talk about love there should be some chemistry involved between the two people.
No matter how advanced technology may be but it can never replace a human when it comes to developing mutual feelings for each other.
Moreoever, there is a limit to how much a robot can response to you since its a non-living thing after all. Hence, it is not very wise to choose robots over humans.
ok first thought that came to me.
"ouch"
=p
so what? your kid comes out to be half human half robot?
Like you said, "Robots will never be the same as humans"
i don't think it will ever be feasible for me. i cannot stand the idea of whatever it says to me as what someone programmed in earlier! furthermore, i don't like refering to my boyfriend or robot boyfriend as it.
JX - sorry del the previous comment, posted twice =D
In the current worldly situation that we have now, I too am not supporting that we have any sexual relations with robots. It is just plain socially suicidal to do so. Don't you think that those who say that they are in love with a robot, are also in a way saying that they are unable to get a real human to love them back? Furthermore, robots being capable of being in relationships means there is more competition for all those singles out there! You finally picked up enough courage to confess your feelings to your crush, but you get turned down because they are already in love with a robot!
But on the technological point of view, I think it would be cool to finally have artificial intelligence capable of doing such tasks. However I foresee that if we were ever able to have such a robot, there would be other more useful tasks that it could be programmed to do rather than being in relationships with humans.
I can see that the idea is still socially unacceptable. Haha Bryan, you had brought out a brilliant example on competition with the artificial intelligence, that would be so sad. I guess everyone is right in certain ways. However, I would like to highlight another benefit. I think it is possible to reduce the number of sexually transmitted disease cases! Robots can help to satisfy the sexual desires of mankind, by being a safer alternative!
I'm not too sure if you saw Steven Spielberg's Artificial Intelligence. In fact in the movie there were robots that provided sexual pleasures to humans.
But I guess if it really were to happen, the sex would be so perfect that there aren't much errors, which in turn might seem like a total bore. Human err, whereas robots are programmed to perfection. I still do like the interesting fact that humans make mistakes. It just makes life less mundane.
Honestly, if we looked at the notion of Love & Sex with Robots from the point of view of those who are widowed, aged, lonely, sick, and disabled, i find that it might actually be a possible, if not good idea.
These groups of people may find once-lost gratification with their robotic sexual partners. Then again, will these humanoid robots be any more available physically and emotionally to these individuals than human partners might be?
I’m definitely not sure about sexual robotic relationships. Certainly, I’d welcome user-robots who would vacuum, cut grass, do dishes, mop the floors, organize messy desks, give fancy dinner parties. I welcome them with open arms.
But as far as sex is concerned, I think I'll stick with the human variety.
seriously, i cant imagine doing the "act of love" with a non-living thing. gross
i definately disagree with robots as our other halfs. one can never force love to order. No one can programme someone to love someone.. when you love, you share a common identity, mutual trust, genuine concern and many more factors. how can a machine fulfil a human's desire for true love?
